VW ID.4 GTX – This is the flagship of Volkswagen’s electric SUV range, and it wears it subtly. Clean, sporty lines, a black contrast roof, twenty-inch alloys, full-width light bars. Best seen from the rear three-quarter, that tail-light bar lit.
Inside, classic Volkswagen done well. Sport seats with red stitching, a huge panoramic glass roof, a 12.9-inch touchscreen, and an augmented-reality head-up display. Even the pedals play along — a play symbol on the accelerator, pause on the brake.
Now the numbers. Dual motors, all-wheel drive — 250 kilowatts, 679 newton-metres, zero to 100 in 5.4 seconds. A 79 kilowatt-hour battery, up to 511 kilometres of range, ten to eighty percent in around 26 minutes.
On the road, one word. Planted. Stiff, meaty steering, a firm, glued-down stance, near silence as it builds pace. Hyper-competent — German efficiency made physical.
Five-year unlimited warranty. Eight-year battery cover. 533-litre boot. From around $73,990 drive-away.
The Volkswagen ID.4 GTX. Planted, refined, and beautifully built. Proof that this performance EV is all about polish over theatrics.
