Wrangler Rubicon – Jeep has a long history, dating back to the 1940’s or so with the ubiquitous WW2 jeep. These were made by three different manufacturers and all identical.
The Jeep was also the first car I ever drove when I was about 11 or so on the farm.
Fast forward to last week when I drove the Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon. This latest version has the same basic core belief. That is, it can go almost anywhere.
Named after the famous Rubicon trail in the states the Wrangler has the awesome Rock-Trac on demand 11 4X4 system and an 8 Sp AT. Jeep continues with the 3.6L petrol engine that has adequate performance but can be thirsty.
With a 4:1 low gear ratio, Tru-Lok® electronic locking front and rear differentials, heavy duty front and rear Dana axles, 32 inch off road tyres and an electronic front sway bar disconnect, its about the best non modified 4WD you can get.
Inside, unlike the original, it’s a comfortable place to be. Heated front seats, U Connect infotainment system and a 9-speaker premium Alpine audio system all add to the ambience.
The four door Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon is priced from $90,450 plus the usual costs.
