That’s right you can’t but it new anymore.

Now being larger than the average bear the Supra isn’t my first pick. Its low and difficult to get into, especially with crook knees and an aging back.

Once inside its tight, very tight for anyone over 180cm and boot space is limited.

But it looks stunning, especially in the matt grey we had.

Start the engine and the appeal becomes immediately apparent.

The delicious exhaust note from the 3.0L straight six-cylinder, twin-scroll turbo engine is music to your ears.

With 285kW of power and 500Nm of torque available, the 8 speed AT drives the rear wheels in classic sports car fashion.

Steering response is direct. The suspension is harsh at times, but the dynamics when pushed make up for that.

With the automotive world seemingly heading electric with soulless cars for its performance, cars with personality like the Supra will be missed. You simply cannot replicate the feeling that a performance petrol engine provides.

As you find that favourite windy, hilly section of road, the exhaust blips, as the gears change. It’s a symphony for sports car fans.

That’s the purpose for the Toyota Supra. Pure hedonistic pleasure.

Here is a two-door coupe with two seats and a tiny boot space. The style brings mixed reactions from people, love it, or dislike it. I like it.

Inside its tight. I’m 170cm tall and fit comfortably, but my husband is 190cm tall and it’s a squeeze for him. One he is happy to do I have to say.

The Supra GTS is powered by a three-litre inline six-cylinder turbo petrol engine. This is good for 285 kilowatts of power and 500 newton metres of torque. There is an eight speed sports automatic transmission driving the rear wheels.

Performance is good at 4.1 seconds from 0-100kmh and a top speed of 250 kmh. Not that we will ever see that on the road. On a track maybe.

As you would expect the Supra is responsive to driver inputs. Ask it to do something and it does it. Simple.

While the Supra is a lot of fun to drive I’m not sure I could live with it every day. Its for the enthusiasts.

Also there would be very little change from $100,000 dollars to buy it

Toyota Supra was launched in late 2019 and is a cousin to the BMW Z4 sharing engine, transmission and well pretty much everything.

Coming in two models the Supra GTS and the Supra GT ,  the difference is basically a bit of bling, larger wheels and upgraded infotainment system.

It comes with a smooth 3.0L inline 6 cylinder turbo petrol engine, 8 speed sports transmission, rear wheel drive, selectable drive modes, launch control and an electronically controlled LSD.

With 250kw and 500 Nm on tap it will go from 0-100kmh in 4.3 seconds and top out at a limited 250kmh. The engine crackle is also music to the ears.

It looks stunning, goes like a rocket, is awesome fun to drive but is really designed for someone smaller than me. It is an uncompromising 2 seat sports car with just enough room for a couple of soft bags for a weekend away.

At around $84,500 plus the usual costs it’s also a performance bargain. Just don’t buy one as a daily driver, keep it for the weekend and find a nice bit of twisty mountain road and enjoy life.

Launched in September 2019, the latest variation has shaken off any previous misconceptions and is an uncompromising sports car that spearheads Toyota’s new GAZOO Racing performance brand as its first global model that was developed in collaboration with the brand’s motorsports arm.

Coming in two models the Supra GTS and the Supra GT that we have for test. The difference is basically a bit of bling, larger wheels and upgraded infotainment system. What does the Supra GT look like?
