The Camry SL model adds a number of convenience features to the vehicle.

It is powered by the smooth and economical 2.5-litre Hybrid Electric powertrain. This drives the front wheels through a CVT. Over the week I had the Camry SL I averaged around 5.4 l/100 km and that included a mix of different roads and driving styles.

Economy is outstanding.

I have to say that the Camry SL is a comfortable place to sit. It immediately makes occupants feel at home. It does everything asked of it so easily. That’s the key to the Camry – It’s so easy to live with.

Boot space is good for a sedan, its deep and long and one rear seat folds down for longer items. However, it would be difficult to slide a large stroller in there.

The rear seats are comfortable for two people and come with two isofix and three top tether points.

Priced from $53,990 plus the usual costs the Toyota Camry SL is excellent value.

I’ve been a fan of the Camry for a while now, Plenty of room, reasonable performance, and outstanding economy. I averaged around 5 litres per 100 kilometres for the week and that included a mix of driving.

The mid spec model misses little luxuries like heated leather seats but does come with driver lumbar support and electric seat. The fabric seats are not my first choice, but they are practical. There is loads of practical storage and you just feel comfortable sitting in there.

It also has wireless charging and smart phone connectivity, and the large central screen is excellent.

Toyota has put a pause on taking orders for the time being as global demand is so great they are having trouble keeping up in the post Covid world.

The demand is so great because the vehicle is so good.

First up it looks pretty good. It’s a conservative design, that seems to work.

Inside the SL Camry is packed with little comfort and luxury features like heated and cooled front seats, Panoramic glass roof and power adjustment for both front seats and a memory function for the driver’s seat.

But the story is all about the hybrid engine. The Camry is perhaps the best advertisement for petrol hybrid technology you can get.

The 2.5 litre petrol engine with hybrid technology cones with a CVT and front wheel drive.

Around town the economy is outstanding. It claims 4.5 litres per 100 kilometres. And we were getting close to that.

The benefits are obvious. The hybrid uses less resources to make the batteries, has lower driving emissions and zero range anxiety. You can simply take five-minutes and fill up and be on your way again for another 1,000 plus kilometres.

It is feeling a little dated inside now and could do with a revamp, but who knows when that will happen.
