There is a choice of two engines, a 3.5 litre V6 petrol or a 2.2 litre turbo diesel. Both have an eight-speed automatic transmission. The petrol is front wheel drive and the diesel comes with All Wheel Drive.

For a large SUV, at almost 5 metres in length, its quite stylish and looks smaller than it is.

Based on the same platform as the Kia Carnival and Hyundai Staria, it has plenty of room inside for up to eight people. Buyers can choose  a seven-seat option with middle row captain’s chairs.

Front seats are spacious and luxurious. The layout for the driver is well thought out and little features like the push button transmission and in dash indicator camera add to the ambience.

The middle row seats have plenty of room and the third row isn’t too bad for early teens.

One thing I liked is the ability to fold the seats flat for a huge cargo area if needed.

The Palisade is ideal for daily family duties as well as touring on much longer family holidays. Its smooth and easy to drive. You feel cocooned inside and its quiet.

I prefer the 2.2 litre diesel engine choice as it has enough performance for me and excellent economy.

The Hyundai Palisade is priced from  around $67,000 through to a bit under $81,000 plus the usual costs.
