Regular listeners will know I have been a big fan of the diesel Sportage over the years, not the petrol. But the Hybrid version has changed that. Its good, very good.

Being the top model the GT Line, it comes with a host of little luxury features like heated and ventilated front leather seats with multiple electronic adjustment for the driver. Another feature is the  nearly 25 inches of driver’s instrument cluster and central screen, that all merge into one.

At the heart is a 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol-electric hybrid system that has combined 169kW of power and 350Nm of torque. This is matched to a 6 speed AT.

This provides spritely acceleration and excellent economy. We averaged around 6.0l/100km for the week. That’s pretty good.

The Sportage is an ideal mid size. Its small enough to be an urban runabout as well as large enough for longer driving trips and weekends away.

For buyers that don’t want to deal with the issues of living with an EV every day, hybrids are especially desirable. There is no range anxiety, excellent economy and in the case of the Sportage GT-Line comfortable, safe and luxurious.

Priced from around $55,500 plus the usual costs its also good value.

Being the electric version, its quiet and smooth to drive. It certainly has enough performance if that’s what you want. But its more about the refined ride and handling.

There isn’t much that can upset the GV70 and that makes for a relaxed driving experience.

The 77.4 kilowatt hour battery is enough for about 400km range and is relatively quick to charge at a rapid charger. It takes a lot longer at home but its more convenient.

Inside its all luxury. The front seats cocoon you when you sit. Sitting in the GV70 is like putting a favourite pair of jeans, it just feels comfortable.

Of course, Genesis has put everything in the car they can to make it like that.

Rear seats are designed for two people and there is ample boot space for your luggage.

To be honest I prefer the GV70 3.5 litre twin turbocharged V6 engine, but the EV model is perfect for buyers that suits their needs.

Its priced from a little over $126,000 plus the usual costs, but Genesis have made quiet a statement with their cars.
