April Car Sales – Well, the results for new car sales for the YTD April 24 have been released. It’s been a cracking month with 97,202 new vehicles delivered in the month.
This has led to a new YTD record of a bit over 400,000 vehicles delivered for the year.
The SUV category continues to dominate sales, with 55.7 per cent of total market share in April. Light Commercial vehicles including Utes were another 22.0 per cent of sales, Passenger vehicles accounted for 17.8 per cent of sales. Heavy vehicles made up the rest.
Hybrid and Plug-in Hybrid vehicles saw a notable increase, capturing 18.3 per cent of the market compared to 7.5 per cent in the same month last year. This was driven by Toyota finally getting some stock of their RAV 4, Camry, and Corolla.
However, Battery Electric Vehicles saw a decrease in sales accounting for only 6.4 per cent of new sales. Petrol remains the dominant fuel source, followed by diesel.
Of the top ten models delivered in April, five were Toyotas. Three were Utes, five were SUVs and two were passenger cars.
Toyota continues its premier position as number one. With almost 20% of sales. Ford has sneaked past Mazda as number two, on the back of Ranger and Everest sales.
