Wrangler Rubicon – Jeep has a long history, dating back to the 1940’s or so with the ubiquitous WW2 jeep. These were made by three different manufacturers and all identical.

The Jeep was also the first car I ever drove when I was about 11 or so on the farm.

Fast forward to last week when I drove the Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon. This latest version has the same basic core belief. That is, it can go almost anywhere.

Named after the famous Rubicon trail in the states the Wrangler has the awesome Rock-Trac on demand 11 4X4 system and an 8 Sp AT. Jeep continues with the 3.6L petrol engine that has adequate performance but can be thirsty.

With a 4:1 low gear ratio, Tru-Lok^® electronic locking front and rear differentials, heavy duty front and rear Dana axles, 32 inch off road tyres and an electronic front sway bar disconnect, its about the best non modified 4WD you can get.

Inside, unlike the original, it’s a comfortable place to be. Heated front seats, U Connect infotainment system and a 9-speaker premium Alpine audio system all add to the ambience.

The four door Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon is priced from $90,450 plus the usual costs.

Jeep Wave – We recently chatted about the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon and how it is almost unmatched in its standard 4WD capability. The legendary off-road performance is well documented.

Today I want to briefly chat about the culture that surrounds the Jeep.

As many listeners will know the first vehicle, I ever drove is a WW2 Jeep on the farm. This is a vehicle we still have and are in the process of restoring it to working condition again for the farm.

I have a real affection for the Jeep. One that is shared by many others. Driving the Wrangler around the Jeep wave is noticeable. Every other jeep driver will wave to you. Now that’s something that is usual for all adventurers deep in the bush, but not around urban streets.

The feeling of community is huge. And as I discovered if you are driving a Rubicon, well its almost like you are royalty.

Owners of a Wrangler have shown that they dare to be different. They obviously are adventurous, but it goes deeper than that. It’s a sense of freedom that is rare these days.

It’s similar to the brotherhood of the Troopy, the unusual Toyota LandCruiser Troop carrier. Add to that the older style Defender buyer. They are definitely different.

I think that’s why I love the Wrangler so much. It offers a sense of community, the promise of more than the homogenised transport that so many cars provide these days. Long live the Jeep Wrangler

Jeep Rubicon Trail driven for 70 years

Jeep Rubicon is a moniker that is synonymous with a trail rated 4WD. This year Jeep celebrates 70 years of driving the famous and tortuous Rubicon Trail in northern California.

Known as one of the most difficult off-road trails in the world, the Rubicon Trail is the ultimate testbed for Jeep 4×4 vehicle validation, the inspiration for the brand’s most capable model – the legendary Jeep Wrangler and a lifestyle symbol of off-road adventuring.

If you have a Jeep Rubicon, you know you have possibly the most capable manufacturer built 4WD available.

Maybe we should have the same designation for the Canning Stock Route here in Australia.

This world-renowned 4×4 playground spans approximately 22 miles of the toughest off-road terrain on the planet – terrain that Jeep Trail Rated 4×4 vehicles are designed and built to overcome.

This summer, 450 Jeep enthusiasts and their families and friends, driving a total of 125 Jeep Wranglers and Gladiators, celebrated the Rubicon Trail’s seven-decade anniversary

Jeep operates more than 40 Jeep Jamborees annually and continues to expand, this year launching two trips to Iceland that took place in August.
