This is a small to mid-sized SUV that runs a 1.5L 4-cylinder, petrol engine coupled with a 48V battery. It’s a mild hybrid that is capable of some fully electric power thanks to the 15kW electric motor.

This is a reasonable combination that is let down badly by the jerky 7 speed dual clutch transmission. Its simply not pleasant to drive at lower speeds around town and need careful attention in reverse.

Tonale has an unusual style with a longer pointed bonnet and grill and 19-inch diamond cut alloy wheels.

Inside it is comfortable and the Veloce comes with a lot of little luxuries like

• Alcantara leatherette seats,
• large digital drivers instrument and central touch screen,
• 3 spoke sports steering wheel and
• Wireless smart phone connectivity.

In isolation the Tonale accounts for itself well. It’s a competent mid-sized SUV. However, it’s a little disappointing when you consider its an Alfa Romeo. It’s not a drivers’ car if that is what you are looking for.
