Well, the Mustang Mach-E is an all-electric sports car that is nothing like the original.

The Mach-E comes in three models, and I drove the GT version last week.

I actually really like the sleek Sportback style. It also came in a bright blue colour that attracted a lot of attention.

Inside its comfortable with the large vertical central screen being the dominant visual feature. The sports seats hug you tightly and are supportive.

But the real story with the Mach-E GT is performance.

It comes with a 91-kilowatt hour battery with twin motors, one front and one rear.

This delivers up to 358 kilowatts of power and a handy 860 newton metres of torque. This drives all four wheels through a one speed transmission. All this allows the Mustang to go from 0-100 kilometres an hour in less that 4 seconds.

That’s fast.

It will also stop as fast as well with huge Brembo brakes.

The penalty for performance is range and a claimed 490km is closer to 460km in real life.

The Mustang Mach-E GT is priced from around $97,000 plus the usual costs but there are driveaway deals at ford dealers so ask about them.

Does it deserve the name. I drove the premium last week. The entry model is the Select and sport version is the GT version above it.

I have to say I actually enjoyed it. It looks sharp and stylish. Inside its spacious and comfortable. With lots of little luxuries.

Artificial front leather seats, Premium 10 speaker sound system and wireless smart phone connection and charging are just a few.

The Premium comes with a 91-kilowatt hour battery that has a claimed WLTP range of 600km. That’s more like early 500’s in real life which is still pretty good though.

However, its relatively quick and responsive around town. And a pleasure to drive with selectable regenerative braking. It also has rear wheel drive.

One thing that I’m still not sure if I like is the huge central screen. Its big and functional but looks like it was stuck on as an afterthought.

The Ford Mustang MACH-e Premium is priced from around $87,000 dollars plus the usual costs.
