When driving with bub on board safety is always on your mind. The Outlander comes with a Five star ANCAP safety rating along with a high child protection rating.

But the driver monitor system is annoying. Even when you look at the central screen it bings at you. Remembering to turn it off every time is frustrating.

Having a clear reverse camera,  heads up display, and digital rear view mirror all add to the feeling of safety.

Auto headlights and wipers also means there are less things to worry about.

Both Outlanders came with a 2.5 litre, 4 cylinder petrol motor. Driving all four wheels through an all-wheel drive system and an 8 step CVT.

It’s not a powerhouse engine but ample for everyday driving. It can also be a little thirsty.

Mitsubishi has a plug in hybrid versions as well.

But honestly, I would prefer a normal hybrid for better economy.

Overall, the Outlander Exceed has a lot going for it. Style, interior space, safety features and a full 10 year warranty for peace of mind.

But the biggest appeal is the outstanding value for money.

The Mitsubishi Outlander definitely gets the Mum and Bub tick of approval.

My first impressions of the Outlander is I actually like the design. It’s a little boxy but manages to hide its size quite well.

Step inside and you immediately are impressed with the space. Theres lots of it.

In both versions the front seats are exceptionally comfortable. Quilted leather along with heating and ventilation keeps you feeling relaxed. For those cold winter mornings, the steering wheel is heated as well.

Rear seat leg room is generous, and the seats are better designed for two people. Both outer seats have isofix and top tether points.

Access is not bad, but the wheel arches do get in the way a touch.

But placing bub in the  baby seat is easy and the wide opening doors make that simple. There is a pull up sunshade for the rear windows to keep bub comfortable.

Being a five seat version, boot space is practical and the load height means that you aren’t struggling to place gear back there.

I almost forgot to mention the hands free tailgate opening. Just kick under the sensor if you have your hands full and the boot opens.

The opening height can be adjusted for low roof garages as well.

I managed to squeeze a drive in for some thoughts.

I’ve always been fan of the Outlander. It manages to strike a good balance between interior space, safety and comfort and price.

Both the models I drove come with a 2.5 litre, 4 cylinder petrol motor. This provides 135kW of power and 244Nm of torque. Driving all four wheels through an On Demand 4WD system and an 8 step CVT.

It’s definitely no powerhouse but has adequate performance for its purpose.

The latest styling also appeals to many people. It has the advantages of SUV practicality without the bulk that some have.

Inside both these top spec  models come well equipped.

The Outlander Exceed comes with

• heated and ventilated front seats,
• heated exterior mirrors that dip in reverse, and
• aluminium pedals and more.

The Exceed Tourer has upgraded Semi-aniline Leather seat Trim – quilted brown and a 12 Speaker Dynamic Sound System.

Both have comprehensive safety features as well as wireless smart phone connectivity.

One thing I appreciate is the large boot space being a five seat version and a full size alloy spare wheel for both.

Pricing for the Outlander Exceed is from $55,890 and the Exceed Tourer from $58,740, both plus the usual costs and that’s excellent value.

The Outlander is popular because it is terrific value for money. It also gives buyers a lot of choice with 5 or seven seat versions, Petrol or PHEV engines, and front or all-wheel drive.

Outlander 2025 also comes in five different grades, the ES, LS, ASPIRE and Exceed and Exceed Tourer. The PHEV also has a GSR version.

I’ve driven the Outlander a few times and I’m always impressed by the amount of interior space there seems to be.

Rear seats have two isofix point as well as three top tether points. With plenty of rear leg room there is enough space to comfortably fit a baby seat, and the boot is large enough to store the pram and other baby stuff.

I definitely prefer driving the PHEV version and like the extra luxury and features of the Exceed tourer or GSR.

Pricing for the revised model range will be released closer to the launch dates.

The Outlander is a mid-sized seven seat SUV that is always great value for money. The Outlander PHEV GSR model is priced from a bit under $74,000 dollars plus the usual costs.

This is the top model in the range and comes equipped with a host of luxury, comfort and safety features.

Its style is somewhat sleek yet boxy but appealing.

Inside its spacious especially for the front two rows of seats.

The diamond stitched seats are comfortable and ventilated. I did like the layout, its simple yet effective and the infotainment system is intuitive to use.

The PHEV comes with a 2.5 litre natural petrol engine and an electric battery that provided about 70-75 real world kilometres on EV only.

Having said that a lot of owners will have a daily drive of less than that and if they can plug in over night, they can drive all week for zero fuel use.

The benefit is that there is no range anxiety as there is a 56 litre fuel tank as well.

The Mitsubishi Outlander faces stiff competition in the segment, but holds its own. It does feel a little dated in some areas but is a great choice for a family.
