There is the EV9 which is a large SUV, breaking boundaries and will be here soon.

But at a recent EV expo in Korea, Kia revealed plans for more models, the EV3, EV4 and EV5.

The EV3 concept is a compact SUV that is ideal for inner city urban streets.

EV4 brings an unusual design to electric sedans which redefines what is possible is style.

And the EV5 is a mid-sized SUV designed for millennial families.

Al of these embrace sustainable production techniques and extensive use of recycled materials.

By using sustainably grown products like Mycelium and Hemp Kia is doing more for the environment on a broad scale. Details matter, such as having the carpets made from 100% recycled PET or even a portion from recycle fishing nets.

Kia is demonstrating its commitment to minimize its impact on the environment when producing vehicles with the introduction of 10 must-have sustainable items for all new Kia model lines.

Dare I say it, the future looks electric at Kia

Its no secret that the Kia EV6 is a favourite electric car. Especially the top models the EV6 GT-Line and the rocket like EV6 GT.

However we recently drove the entry level model the EV6 Air with rear wheel drive only. It is priced from around $68,000 plus the usual costs.

The single motor EV6 Air produces 168kW power and 350Nm of torque. This provides a single charge driving range of 528km. Performance for the EV6 Air for 0-100 acceleration is approximately 7.3 seconds on 19” alloy wheels.

The EV6 Air still comes with an impressive list of standard features, none more important that the additional electric adjustable lumbar support for the driver, perfect for my ageing back.

Charging is best done on a 350kW charger. The 800V charging capability means the EV6 can go from 10-to-80 per cent battery charge in just 18 minutes. However is you are doing it at home on a normal 10 AMP plug, it takes a LOT LONGER.

We drove the EV6 Air around town on our normal daily routine of about 60-80 km a day. The 500km plus range is ideal for that, but we kept it topped up most nights due to the time to charge at home. It also meant zero localised emissions which helps reduce local pollution.

Electric cars are not the total answer but for some they’re perfect.

However, that changed just prior to Christmas when I took the latest Kia EV6 GT-Line AWD north.

The main reason I chose the EV6 was the range. Under all conditions you will get a minimum of 400km range and often up to 500km.

Range on an electric car is just like distance to empty on a petrol or diesel engine, except the refueling process takes longer and requires more planning.

The closest public charging station from my home is about a 20-minute drive, it wasn’t working so the next closest one is almost an hour’s drive. there is a bank of Tesla chargers about 30 minutes away as well.

So, the option was to charge overnight.  As I had used 50% of the charge driving up the coast, the first overnight took about 20 hours and got it back to about 90% charge. From there on I plugged the  EV6 in every night to keep it topped up to 100% daily.

As mentioned in previous reviews, the EV6 is one of my favourite electric cars. It certainly attracted a lot of attention and I probably sold two of them while chatting to people about it.

• Its especially stylish as well as practical
• Ground up flat floor design allows maximum interior space
• Little features make all the difference, like:

  • adjustable brake regeneration makes for individualised driving style
  • compliant ride and handling
  • both interior and exterior V2L capability
  • powered charging flap
  •  a charge lead for all circumstances
  • Remote smart parking assist
  • powered tailgate
  • heated and ventilated front seats and heated steering wheel
  • excellent sound system
  • heaps of internal storage spaces, the under centre console area is clever
• if you cant get to a fast charger its easy to top up at home, but keep it topped up as it takes a while.

• The augmented reality HUD is amongst the best as is the 12.3 inch central touch screen
