Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD has just been launched at a drive day in Queensland. The Silverado 2500 HD is ideal as a larger towing vehicle.
Priced from $163,000 plus the usual costs it isn’t cheap, but then again it will tow 4500kg and sit five people in spacious comfort.
It looks imposing and at almost 6.4m in length its no wonder. That does pose problems in normal suburban streets and car parks, but outback or on boat ramps not so much. What it does allow is plenty of room inside.
Its also impressively comfortable and well laid out. Remember these are normal passenger pickup truck in America.
The Silverado has a 6.6 litre turbocharged V8 diesel engine with 350 kilowatts of power and a massive 1322 Newton metres of torque. It has a four-wheel drive, on demand system, a two-speed transfer case, driving through a 10 speed automatic gearbox.
All that power and torque allows for spirited driver engagement but there is a price to pay at the petrol bowser. Its can use some 20L/100K around town or towing .
While it is ideal for towing and outback touring, it can be a little big for more rugged off road adventures. Its capable but not really designed for the tight forest trails or rock hopping.
Overall the Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD is a welcome addition to the choices buyers have for larger towing needs.
