What type of car is baby friendly for new mums?

What is the best car for a new mum

Baby friendly – Regular listeners may know that I’m about to have my first child. So, looking for what type of car would suit me best is a priority at the moment. Remember this is in an ideal world.

baby seats in SUV

There are obvious things that make a car, baby friendly, but also some not so obvious features as well.

The first think I’m looking for is isofix and top tether points. This makes installing the baby seat so much safer and easier. Most new cars should have these, but not all do.

The second thing I’m looking for is space. Space between the rear and front seats. A baby seat consumes a lot of space.

So, you need room  for it to fit comfortably and for you to move around while putting your bub in and out.

Here is one of those less thought about issues. How wide does the rear door open and how much room is there for access.

Babies need a lot of gear, pram or stroller, nappy bags, extra clothing etc. Boot access, size and shape is so important. That’s why SUVs in part have become so popular. They have an open boot area that easily swallows the gear you take along.

Again, keep an eye on the load height. You really don’t want to be lifting the pram too high to put it in the boot.

These are just a few thoughts and over the coming weeks I’ll share more.
