Toyota 70 Series V8 is dead – Long live the 4 Cylinder.

Toyota has killed the V8 LandCruiser

70 Series V8 – In a move I predicted back in December last year when Toyota released a 4-cylinder version of its 70 series trio, they have now announced that there will be no more V8 orders taken.

Yes, the V8 70 series LandCruiser is now officially dead. It has been the go-to engine since 2007 and extremely popular. However, changing regulations have meant that it became unviable to make the changes necessary.

Of course, Toyota will do everything they can to fulfill existing orders. The order book has been closed for some two years. Final production of the V8 Wagon, Troop Carrier, and WorkMate and GX pick-ups will take place in September with vehicles expected to be in customer hands late this year or early next year.

However, for orders of the high-demand 79 Series GXL single and double cabs will continue to be filled through to the final quarter of 2025.

In addition, Toyota has also announced there will  be a heavily modified manual transmission available for the 4 Cylinder engine  from September 2024.

In reality the 4 Cylinder 70 series vehicles are better than the V8, but its sad to see yet another automotive ICON disappear.
