It comes with the same turbocharged 2.4-litre, horizontally-opposed four-cylinder Boxer engine that delivers some 202 kW of power and Torque of 350 Nm of torque This is matched to a 6 speed manual transmission.

The first thing you notice is the huge rear wing. That’s a throwback to the glory Sti days of the WRX.

However, it also has the subtle styling of the sedan as well

I do like the matte grey 19 inch alloys with performance tyres. They contrast nicely with the Brembo brakes that show through.

Inside the main difference is comfortable and supportive Recaro seats for the front occupants. These fit snugly and keep you secure when you start to get enthusiastic.

When I first drove it it felt harsh in the suspension and tiresome with the manual box. However, that quickly changed and the more I drove it the more I really enjoyed buzzing around.

Its not outright fast these days, but on a winding hilly road it will showcase its sporty nature and keep up with many more fancied sports cars.

That’s the key here. Its fun, inexpensive fun. Its priced from around $52,590 plus the usual costs and there isn’t mush around that price that’s as much fun.

I do wish they would bring back the Sti versions though
