This is the best Car Sales result since the previous record in January 2018.

Also continuing the trend is the fact that SUVs account for about 55% of dales. Light commercial vehicles, which includes Utes, another 22%. Passenger vehicles around 18% and heavy vehicles the rest.

Petrol remains the dominant fuel source with 47% of sales. Followed by diesel with 32%. Hybrids account for 12% and battery electric vehicle sales have dropped to 5.4%.

Of the top ten vehicles, three were Utes, five were SUVs and 2 were passenger cars.

The top ten brands are led yet again by Toyota with almost 20% market share. They are followed by Mazda, Ford Hyundai, and Mitsubishi. The next five top brands are Kia, MG, Isuzu Ute, GWM and Subaru.

Despite the fast start to the year, it will be interesting to see how it works out over the coming months when residual orders are met, and the full effects of inflation and recession hit the market.
