Jeep Overland now comes with a 4-cylinder turbo petrol engine that is actually better than the old V6 it replaces. It has similar power, more torque and better fuel economy, especially around town.

The eight-speed automatic transmission seems to extract the best from the engine.

The 4 door Wrangler is a mid-sized 4WD and has reasonable room inside. The front seats, now with electronic adjustment, are especially comfortable.

I do like the driver’s instruments with a three-pod design and the thick rimmed leather steering wheel.

There is plenty of information available from the large central screen, and it has wireless smart phone connectivity.

The audio system is great for belting out my favourites.

One feature I love is the electronically retractable roof. This gives that “Al-Fresco” feeling without all the fuss of removing the hard top.

Around town the Jeep drives like a 4WD Jeep, not an SUV. That said its easy to live with and comes with a level of ‘coolness’ that not many cars have.
