This engine is quite powerful and provides plenty of zip around town and cruises beautifully on the motorway.

It also has about 60km of EV only range and that’s enough for most daily trips. Its also relatively economical as a hybrid.

The Azami comes well equipped with luxury and comfort features. I particularly like the Nappa leather seats that are ventilated for the front seats. You can personalise the driving position for different drivers. And the 360 degree see through camera system adds to the safety.

Mazda have done a great job with the CX-80. Its spacious, comfortable and smooth. It feels like it cocoons you as you are driving.

Pricing for the CX-80 range is from around $55,000 through to $87.200 dollars plus the usual costs. The SP option package is $5000.

There is a lot of competition for large seven seat SUVs but the new CX-80 is definitely worth a drive.

The Sorento has long been a favourite SUV of mine. In fact, not so long ago I drove the normal hybrid version.

Being the GT- Line means that it is absolutely packed with luxury, comfort and safety features. Kia does a great job with those.

The Plug in hybrid model has a 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine with a small electric motor and battery. This combination allows for enough performance to keep the Sorento moving easily.

However, the small EV Only range of around 50km is a bit short for daily driving. It means that you most likely will need to charge every night for it to be useful.

For new families there are isofix and top tether points for baby seats and the boot is large enough with the rear seats folded, for all the gear you need. Rear seats have plenty of leg and knee room for adults and baby seats. The rear seats are best left for shorter occupants.

The main issue I have with the Plug in Hybrid model is that it costs from $84,660 dollars plus the usual costs. That is some $11,500 dollars more expensive than the normal hybrid model, which is really good, and I just can’t see the value.
