I had this compact hybrid SUV over the Christmas break.

Not only does it have stylish design, but its elegant interior is class leading.

I particularly liked the configurable 3D I-cockpit design. This raised digital dash and unique steering wheel suits my driving position perfectly.

There is a panoramic opening glass roof, 360 degree camera and classy 18 inch black alloy wheels.

Both front seats are heated, and the driver’s seat has an electric lumbar support and relaxing massage function.

Powering the 2008 GT is a 1.2L turbo petrol engine paired with a 48V hybrid system. It’s zippy around town and engaging to drive. I didn’t take it on a longer drive this time. That’s because the Air Conditioning wasn’t working and driving longer distances on 40 plus degree days didn’t seem like fun.

It is however economical and we got around 5.0l/100k over the time we had it.

The Peugeot 2008 GT Hybrid has an almost perfect blend of size, performance, and economy. It also brings an element of style and sophistication and has a premium ambience. At around $49,500 plus the usual costs its great value compared to its European rivals.

The Peugeot 2008 GT Hybrid is ideal for buyers that want something just a little bit different.

Let’s recap a few highlights.

• Fitting the baby seat is so easy with isofix and top tether points.
• There is room for me to sit in the back seat when needed but it’s a bit tight .
• The boot is large enough for the pram, bassinet and all the mum and bub gear. But that fills it and there isn’t much room for other gear.
• Rear air conditioning keeps bub happy.
• Access is easy to the back seat and boot area. The handsfree kick sensor opening tailgate is handy.

• The front seats are exceptionally comfortable with heating and ventilation, massage function and multi electric adjustments.
• It feels so good and relaxing sitting in them, especially when you are tired as all new parents are.
• I like the steering wheel and drivers’ instruments. It’s different yet practical.
• Like all Peugeots, the 5008 is stylish and classy looking. I’ve had quite a few mums at group sessions come up and chat about the Peugeot. They all love the style and interior ambience.

Pricing for the Peugeot 5008 GT premium Hybrid is from a little under $68,000 dollars plus the usual costs. This is great value compared to other premium SUVs.

So overall the Peugeot 5008 Hybrid gets the mum and bub approval.

Lets chat about safety. Something all parents think about for their bubs.

The Peugeot comes with all the usual features like emergency braking, anti-lock braking, lane keep assist, blind spot detection and stability control amongst many others.

There are a couple of features that I particularly like.

First is the curtain airbags for both rows of rear seats.

Second is automatic hazard light activation under heavy braking. It lets the drivers behind know you are stopping quickly.

Third is the Lane Departure Warning with unmarked  road edge detection. This is ideal for country roads or even some of our terrible suburban roads.

Owners should note that the third row seats are not designed to take a baby seat.

Other subtle safety features that I like are the clear reverse camera that allows excellent vision. And the headlights certainly light up the night.

One aspect we haven’t spoken about yet is the engine and performance. On paper the 1.2 litre, three cylinder turbo hybrid petrol engine may seem underpowered. However, on the Its quiet and smooth to drive and seems to scoot along nicely.

I never really noticed it wanting for performance and the economy is outstanding. I averaged around 6 litres per 100 km over the weeks I had it and that really helps with tight budgets.

However, I managed to steal it away from her for a few days. Simply because I love driving it.

Reason why im a big fan include the wagon/SUV styling. Peugeot builds beautiful cars and the 5008 manages to make a wagon look stylish.

I live the front LED headlight and DRL design. It stands out especially at night.

This lighting design carries through to the rear end and manages to bring elegance to a boxy rear end.

Inside the 5008 GT excels. Its comfort and luxury all the way. Leather seats have heating and ventilation. Don’t forget the massage function that allows multi choice and while im driving the massage function is working.
Im also a big fan of the low set steering wheel and Peugeot i-cockpit driver instrument design. It fits my driving style perfectly.

The small flat bottom and top steering wheel has a  responsive feel. Its no sports SUV but driver engagement is excellent. The 1.2L three cylinder hybrid petrol engine sounds light in. However, in real world driving conditions it’s never found wanting. Quite the opposite its feels zippy and scoots along, especially on the motorways.

Economy is outstanding as well.

Overall, the Peugeot 5008 GT Premium Hybrid provides a quality alternative to the luxury European SUVs and brings French flair and style. It’s for people that want something just a little bit different.

Peugeot always make stylish cars and the 5008 is no exception.

It comes in two models the Allure and top spec GT Premium, which I drove.

The Allure comes well equipped. However, the GT Premium has all the little extra luxuries like

• Leather interior
• Front seats with heating, ventilation and 10 way electric adjustment
• Rear outer seats have heating as well.
• There is a panoramic sunroof.

Two practical luxuries that I absolutely love are

• the multi point massage function for the front seats and
• The hands free electric tailgate with foot sensor opening

Perfect for when you have your arms full and need the boot opened. Every mum will appreciate these two.

Fitting the baby seat is easy with two isofix and top tether points. The rear door opens wide enough for comfortable access.

Rear seat room is a little cramped and the front passenger seat has to move forward a touch. I can sit in the back with bub, but it’s tight.

Boot space is also tight. The pram and carrier take up most of the room. There would be more room if it was a five seat version.

It certainly turned heads when driving and I had a lot of people comment on it.

Inside its driver ergonomics are excellent. The seats are especially comfortable. Both front seats are heated and ventilated, and the additional lumbar support is great.

It has clever features like wireless smart phone connectivity and charging. Panoramic opening glass sunroof and a premium 10 speaker sound system.

Im a huge fan of the small flat top and bottom steering wheel that sits below the 3D ICockpit instruments.

The engine is a 1.2L turbo hybrid petrol paired with a 6 speed dual clutch automatic transmission.

It has zippy performance that is enhanced by the raspy exhaust note. Also, economy is outstanding. I drove over 1000km in the week and averaged 5.7L/100K no matter how hard I pushed it.

The combination of responsive steering, sports mode and the raspy exhaust made the driving fun.

Of course, being a Peugeot everything has a premium feel about it.

I drive roughly 200 vehicles a year. Some stand out, some are very forgettable. However, I rarely instantly love a vehicle as much as the Peugeot 408 GT Hybrid.

Priced from under $58,000 plus the usual costs its outstanding value compared to its premium European competitors.

Adding to that practicality is the recent release of a full hybrid variant. It is available in wither the Allure or GT model specs.

The 3008 is powered by a 1.2L turbo petrol hybrid motor, with FWD and a 6-speed Dual Clutch System Automatic Transmission.

One excellent feature of the hybrid is obviously fuel economy and at 4.9L/100K its outstanding.

I especially like the internal layout of the 3008 hybrid. It combines advanced technology with a host of standard features with classic Peugeot comfort. There is plenty of room inside for a family.

Of course the GT Premium comes with a host of luxury features such as

• heated seats with massage function,
• electric (10-way) adjustable front seats
• Wireless smart phone connectivity, and
• hands-free smart electric tailgate with foot sensor

I am also a big fan of the flat top and bottom steering wheel and i-cockpit drivers instruments. It negates the need for a HUD and allows complete visibility.

Priced from $52,990 plus the usual costs the MY25 PEUGEOT 3008 Hybrid compared to its premium rivals is excellent value.
