It comes with a 74.7 kWh CATL battery, delivering a driving range of up to 533 kilometres. With 150 kW DC fast-charging, Trailseeker can charge from 10 to 80 per cent in approximately 30 minutes^.

With 280 kW of power the Trailseeker will go from 0-100kmh in 4.4 seconds. That’s relatively quick and places it alongside EVs like the Kia EV6 GT, DEEPAL E07 AWD and Hyundai IONIQ 5 N. Anything sub five seconds for the sprint is enough.

Subaru’s famed AWD capability hasn’t been forgotten. Trailseeker comes with 211mm of ground clearance, Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive and low centre of gravity.

Trailseeker also comes with a 1500kg braked towing capacity for lifestyle and everyday practicality

Let’s chat about the Outback Wilderness. It comes in two versions, Wilderness and Wilderness Apex.

Outback Wilderness has a big bold, chunky design. It certainly looks the part of a capable AWD SUV.

However, due to some Australian Design Rules, it is missing some chunky all terrain tyres to match. Im guessing that will be the first thing prospective buyers add.

The interior matches the exterior appeal.  There is a redesigned horizontal central touch screen. Air conditioning controls have reverted to physical press buttons, which I like. In addition, there is a new large digital instrument cluster and even more controls on the steering wheel with the addition of X-Mode.

Outback Wilderness comes with 240m of ground clearance. Lets put that into perspective the new Prado GX has 210 mm. Wilderness also features dual-mode X-Mode, and a clever redesigned suspension system that works in tandem with X-Mode.

The Outback Wilderness is powered by a  2.4 L turbo petrol boxer engine, delivering 194 kW of power and 382 Nm of torque. Driving all four wheel through the brilliant symmetrical AWD system. It comes with an eight step Lineartronic CVT.  The extra performance over the normal Outback is noticeable and appreciated.

As you would expect from Subaru, the Outback Wilderness is class leading in safety features as well.

Pricing is from $59,690 through to $62,690 plus the usual costs

Lets chat about the normal Outback. It comes in three versions, Outback, Premium and Touring

The first thing you notice is that the wagon profile has gone. Its more SUV like now, standing taller.

I like the new design but do miss the quirkiness of the capable wagon concept.

Inside there is a new 12.1-inch horizontal infotainment touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay® & Android Auto and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster as standard.

This also heralds a return to touch controls for things like air conditioning. Rather than on the screen.  Surprisingly, for the first time there is no CD drive.

I was a fan of the vertical screen in the last model, but the new design brings a fresh appeal.

Another change is the controls for X-Mode are now on the steering wheel.

Subaru certainly likes to pack a lot of controls on their wheels.

The Outback is powered by the familiar 2.5 L non turbo petrol horizontally opposed boxer engine. This provides 137 kW of power and 254 Nm of torque driving all four wheel through the brilliant symmetrical AWD system. It comes with an eight step Lineartronic CVT.

As you would expect from Subaru, the Outback is class leading in safety features as well.

Pricing is from $48,990 through to $56,990 plus the usual costs

Powered by a 2.4L Turbo diesel engine delivering 135kW of power and  480Nm of torque, it’s responsive to drive . With a GWM  9-speed automatic transmission it’s also reasonably economical as well.

The Canon isn’t a bad looking Ute and the XSR comes with extra style additions. These include full underbody protection, front and rear steel bumpers, black alloys, sports bar, roof rails, and a black snorkel.

Inside the Canon is comfortable and well laid out. The drivers’ instruments and large central screen have good resolution and easy to read. The heated and ventilated front seats are electrically adjustable. I do like the separate USB input on the rear view mirror for dash cams.

The XSR also comes with a Borg Warner 4WD system, front and rear diff locks, adjustable steering, 700 mm wading depth and other 4WD features.

I took the Canon XSR on some dirt roads that are heavily corrugated and potholed. The rear suspension is a little harsh, but it coped well. On sand it’s easy to drive and the low torque delivers when needed.

Rated to tow 3500kg I didn’t get a chance this time, but it certainly feels as if it will be a handy tow vehicle.

The best news is the price. From $51,990 plus the usual costs its pretty good value for money

Set to arrive soon, the Wilderness comes with an exclusive 2.4L turbo boxer petrol engine. This produces some 194 kW of power and 382 Nm of torque. This drives all four wheels through the improved Active Torque Split Symmetrical AWD system and an 8 step CVT especially calibrated for the Wilderness, to maximise off-road capability by making the most of the increased low-rev output.

Wilderness also comes with dual mode X-Mode and exclusive suspension tuning allows for even higher ground clearance of 240mm, and electronically controlled dampers linked with X-Mode.

Add to that improved approach, breakover and departure angles and you have the complete adventure based SUV.

Externally the Wilderness gets a rugged style front end and dual tail pipes as well as 18 inch alloys. Internally there are special decals on the water resistant seats etc. Subaru has also changed the central screen from vertical to 12.1 inch  horizontal across its outback models.

Subaru Outback has always been the thinking person’s SUV, and the Wilderness now offers what buyers have wanted for a long time.

Pricing for the Outback Wilderness starts at $59,690 through to $62,690 plus the usual costs. Like always the Subaru Outback represents excellent value.

 The D-Max is a popular towing vehicle. It has a 3.0L turbo diesel engine with 145kW of power and 450Nm of torque that comes in at a low 1600rpm. This mated to a robust 6Sp Aisin AT makes it an ideal towing vehicle. It will also easily tow 3500 kg.

Its one of my favourite towing vehicles.

The package includes:

• a tow bar tongue and 50mm ball,
• 12-pin wiring harness,
• electric brake controller,
• Clearview extendable heated and power-fold compact towing mirrors,
• a canopy with dual lift-upside windows,
• slimline weather shields, and
• unique TOUR MATE badging.

This is a well thought out package. Many vans these days have 12 pin wiring, and every tow vehicle needs an electronic brake controller. Every Isuzu D-Max comes with  genuine tow hitch as well.

The Clearview extendable mirrors are the best on the market. The canopy looks great and adds another dimension for load carrying. Also going old school with the slim line window shields is a clever touch.

This is definitely a package that is worth looking at for prospective towers.

The thing I really like about Isuzu Utes is that they all come with the full set of safety features, right from the entry level model through to the top model.

They all come with wireless connectivity for smart phones and all have height and reach adjustments for the steering wheel

So the basics are covered. The X-Rider comes with:

• A soft cover and sports bar for the tub
• 10 inch infotainment system
• Black exterior and interior highlights

The fabric seats appear hard wearing, but the manual adjustment means that it’s a little difficult to find a really comfortable position.

The Ute I drove comes with the 3.0 litre 4 cylinder turbo diesel engine and a reliable 6 speed automatic transmission. Of course, dual range 4WD and a 3500 kg towing capacity.

The X-Rider comes with the upgraded rear springs that allows better payload with a slightly softer on road ride when unladen. Slightly is the key word here.

Priced at $59,500 plus the usual costs, the Isuzu D-MAX X-Rider is great value as you would expect from Isuzu

I do like the design of the Velar; its elegant and subtle style creates a presence on the road.

Inside the ebony interior provides immediate ambience.

Sitting in the front seats you appreciate the sense of luxury and comfort. The 3D surround sound system makes you feel like you are at a live concert.

Rear seats are a little cramped for leg room and not ideal for a baby seat. I’m still sitting in the back with my little boy, and it’s not really designed for that.

Boot space is reasonable, but with a sloping roof line you do lose some capacity.

With a two litre Plug in Hybrid petrol motor, there is plenty of performance. The electric only range is about 60 kilometres, and it will easily charge overnight.

Driving the Velar Autobiography is so smooth and quiet. Ride and handling is what you would expect from Range Rover.

Few car brands have suspension as smooth as this.

Given the levels of luxury, it’s strange to think about taking this car off road, but it is capable. I just don’t think any owners will.

Snow trips and weekends away at the country estate are more its style.

The 35^th Anniversary model is based on the Dynamic SE with technology, styling, towing and comfort upgrades.

With the relaunch of the Defender, the Discovery seems to have been pushed to the background a touch. It has however morphed into a premium 4WD SUV.

I like the latest design, it’s sleek with smooth lines and purposeful.

Inside its luxury and comfort all the way. The front seats are particularly supportive, and heating was appreciated on cold mornings.

Driver ergonomics are excellent with the only grumble being the steering wheel control buttons are a bit cumbersome.

The Discovery is powered by an inline six cylinder turbo diesel engine. This provides a combination of both powerful performance and economy. This drives all four wheels through an eight speed AT.

The key to the Discovery’s appeal is just how smooth and responsive it is to drive. While its quiet and comfortable around town, it excels on the open road.

Very few manufacturers sort their suspension as compliant as Land Rover. It seems to just soak up all the bumps and road irregularities without fuss.

Pricing for the 35^th Anniversary Discovery is from $132,090 plus the usual costs. The vehicle we had also had the capability pack for more 4WD activities that added another $5000.

Overall if you are in the market for a premium family based SUV then the Discovery should definitely be on your list.
