The updated MY26 X-TRAIL range boasts design enhancements, advanced technology features, and an increase in service intervals, boosting the appeal that has made it a standout in Australia’s competitive medium SUV segment.

Some of the highlights include:

• refreshed front and rear styling,
• updated 18- and 19-inch wheel designs on select grades,
• enhanced interior materials and finishes, and
• the introduction of Nissan’s Connected Car Services^#(CCS 1.0) technology across the entire range.

I’ve been a big fan of the e-power hybrid system. This essentially has the X-Trail driving more like an EV without the hassles of charging as the petrol engine acts as a generator essentially. That’s a simple explanation.

The MY26 X-TRAIL will be available across 5 model grades, with both conventional ICE and e-POWER e-4ORCE variants offered. The range continues to provide five-seat and seven-seat configurations to suit varying family requirements.

It’s got the kind of style that says, I’m cool, but I don’t need to prove it, and that’s something we can all appreciate.

The exterior is sleek, with clean lines and a grille that says, I know what I’m doing. Inside, it’s comfortable, with a decent 9-inch touchscreen, but here’s the thing—you don’t need to become best friends with your smartphone to use it. Nissans smartly included actual physical buttons for things like climate control, volume, and tuning. In the world of endless touchscreens, it’s refreshing to feel a button under your fingers. Call it a throwback to a time when you didn’t have to swipe and tap your way through every function. You know, when the car just… worked.

Performance-wise, the QASHQAI e-POWER is solid. The 190 horsepower hybrid system won’t break any speed records, but it’ll certainly get you where you need to go. It’s smooth around town and efficient, with a fuel consumption of about 5.6 litres per 100 kilometres. You won’t have to think twice about refuelling every time you hit the road.

As for features, it’s got the usual suspects—adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist—but also adds semi-autonomous driving mode for when you just want to let go of the wheel (metaphorically, of course). It’s a handy feature for the daily grind, but don’t expect it to take over your life just yet.

So, is the QASHQAI e-POWER game-changing? Not really. But it’s the kind of car that makes sense. Practical, easy to live with, and yes, you can actually use the buttons while driving—no need for an engineering degree.

The QASHQAI e-POWER combines a 1.5L turbo-petrol, three-cylinder engine with a power generator, inverter, and electric motor, with a combined system output of 140kW and 330Nm.

It works slightly differently to other hybrid in that the advanced turbocharged engine generates the electricity, which is transferred via the inverter to either the 140kW electric motor or the 1.8kWh battery (or both, according to the driving scenario).

The result is that it feels more like an EV rather than a petrol hybrid.

Economy is around 5.0l/100k. Its smooth, quiet, and comfortable to drive.

Priced from around $54,500 plus the usual costs. Nissan QASHQAI is an ideal urban runabout that is large enough for weekend away and longer drives.

Definitely worth a test drive

The different car was the Nissan Z Nismo. The Z has been around for years and the Nismo is perhaps the best version yet.

Even though it’s a few years old now it still looks stunning. The design hasn’t aged at all.

Especially with the Nismo forged alloy wheels and other styling upgrades.

Inside it’s a pure two seater. No baby seat here.

The Nismo steering wheel and Recaro seats set the tone. They are purely designed for sports performance. Asis the Nismo tuned powertrain, suspension, and chassis.

Around town it’s a little harsh in rode, but the handling is excellent. This is a purely hedonistic responsive sports coupe.

The interior is getting a little dated now, with smaller central screen and the old school dash top dials. But that all somehow adds to the appeal.

While it is small, it fitted my 190cm husband in relative comfort. Boot space is – shall we say – limited.

Priced from a bit under $103,000 dollars driveaway. It’s actually not that expensive for what you get.

Nissan has a long history of building excellent and thrilling sports coupes, and the Nissan Z Nismo is amongst the best. It’s all about the thrill of driving.

Yet being a large SUV vehicle, it often is bought by families.

The first thing I noticed was how high the access is. Even the side steps were high , great for ground clearance, not so much for shorter mums.

In the front its spacious and quite comfortable. With a new central screen, the Patrol has become more updated. The new infotainment system also allows wireless smart phone mirroring as well as a wireless charging tray.

The middle row seats have lots of knee and leg room. There are two top tether points in the middle row of seats. But access is difficult. You need to be acrobatic. One advantage is the rear air vents for localised air flow. There are also plenty of little storage areas.

Third row of seats is best left for pre-teens.

Boot space is huge with five seats and not bad with eight seats in use.

Overall, I would say the Nissan Patrol Warrior is great for families that are adventurous. But best for kids when they are out of baby seats.

Priced from around $105,000 dollars plus the usual costs its actually good value.

There are four main models with the petrol engine. Nissan has introduced their version of a hybrid motor – the e-power, to the two top spec models., The TI-L and N- Design.

I drove the T-i version last week. This sits almost in the middle of the range yet comes with many unexpected standard features that were appreciated.

Overall, the upgrades are aimed at making the QASHQAI more comfortable and keeping the styling fresh.

One thing that the new model has is a longer wheelbase. This allows more room all around, though being a smaller SUV rear leg room is still a touch restricted for taller passengers. Likewise, a baby seat will be cramped. Boot space is reasonable for two larger style bags.

Inside, the TI comes with wireless smart phone mirroring as well as charging, and heated front seats and steering wheel, which have been needed. The new larger central screen makes a big difference to the overall feel, as does the ambient lighting at nighttime.

The T-I comes with a smaller turbocharged petrol engine with a CVT. It works well around town. Unfortunately, we didn’t have a chance to head out of town this time.

The Nissan QASHQAI Ti is priced from around $43,000 dollars plus the usual costs.

But not all hybrids are the same. I drove the Nissan X-Trail e-power last week. This hybrid drives more like an EV as the petrol engine is designed to charge the battery and only kick in when necessary.

I had the Ti X-Trail. This is a high spec model that is well equipped and comfortable. It comes with

• E-4orce all-wheel drive,
• Panoramic sunroof,
• motion activated tailgate, and
• 19-inch alloy wheels amongst other features.

The X-Trail is smooth and quiet to drive. It has a 1.5 litre three-cylinder petrol engine combined with an electric motor that turns the wheels. Its economical and my fuel use was around 7.0 litres per 100 kilometres. That’s not bad.

The five seat X-Trail is also a decent size for a family and comes with two isofix points and top tether points for a baby seat. The boot is large enough to hold the baby stroller and more as well.

Priced from around $55,500 plus the usual costs there are driveaway deals at local dealers so have a chat to them.

To date, manufacturers have enhanced in excess of 12,000 Warrior models across Australia.

Premcar has made a number of significant changes to the South African-market Nissan Navara PRO-4X to create this new Warrior hero version. One of the most significant changes we made was retuning the suspension for the South African conditions.

When the doors finally closed on Australian motor car manufacturing a few years ago, things looked bleak for local talent.

Now, however there are a number of remanufacturing outfits that are successfully navigating local conditions in conjunction with major automotive brands. A lot of vehicle improvements like the Warrior as well as LHD to RHD conversions for American Pickup trucks.

Another cartoon was the Jetsons where driverless cars were the rage.

Well Nissan has just showcased its latest autonomous-drive (AD) technology in Yokohama’s Minato Mirai area. For the first time in Japan, a test vehicle with no driver in the car has navigated a public road in a complex urban environment^*¹. Nissan has developed this proprietary technology for a mobility service it plans to launch in Japan.

Nissan AD is a significant step to empower mobility by resolving transportation service challenges faced by local communities, such as driver shortages resulting from an aging population.

The latest test vehicles are based on the Serena — Japan’s top-selling minivan — and incorporate 14 cameras, nine radars and six LiDAR sensors. The roof-mounted sensors offer significantly expanded detection by taking advantage of the height of the Serena and enabling more accurate detection of its surroundings.

To ensure the utmost safety for the test vehicle demonstration. Nissan engineers verified an extensive number of possible scenarios along the driving route. Added an immediate stop function for emergencies, and introduced intentional redundancies.

I think Ill stick to driving for a while yet.

Given how bad some cab, Uber and bus drivers are, this may be a good thing.
