Similar to the D-Max, the MU-X now has an X-Terrain model, which is the most comprehensively equipped ever. With a distinctive dark theme interior and exterior highlight design.

Across the range the standard ADAS suite now includes a host of undated features, making it one of the safest in its segment. On selected models there is now a 360 degree surround view camera which is excellent for off road driving, hitching a van or boat or even parking in the shopping centre.

There is also a slight suspension re-tune to make the MU-X 2025 more compliant at higher speeds on motorways. Its subtle but effective.

What hasn’t changed is the MU-X robustness and reliability. It remains a truly capable 4WD, which we proved yet again on the launch taking it on tracks that most standard 4WDs wouldn’t go. Its also an ideal towing vehicle with the 3.0L turbo diesel engine and the low torque delivery. Many brands have proven the six-speed Aisin AT over many years.

The new model is available from March 1^st. Pricing starts from a touch under $44,000 plus the usual costs and there are two driveaway specials for the LS-T model at $69,990 and the new X-Terrain at $73,990 RDAP. These are great value.

First up let me say that the 3.0L with 140Kw AND 450Nm of torque is good, but my view is more performance is always better. We have chatted numerous times about that motor and its ability to tow heavy loads economically.

Now to the new 1.9L engine that has been in the D-Max for a few years now.

You can  notice the difference, there is no denying that. But for many drivers the smaller engine will be enough. It will still tow 3000kg and has a wide torque band starting from around 1,500 rpm through to about 3,700 rpm.

This makes for relaxed cruising and its still fairly responsive. If you are towing a smaller camper trailer or jet skis t, but still want the larger sized Wagon, then the 1,9L engine may be a good choice for you.

That’s the beauty currently. Buyers have a choice. Lets hope  it stays that way.

My fear is that eventually the 3.0L engine will be phased out and we will be left with the smaller engine only, thanks to the governments draconian NVES protocols.

It now comes with a choice of two engines.

The original 3.0L 4 cylinder turbo diesel, that has 140kW of power and 450 Nm of torque.

A new 1.9L 4 cylinder turbo diesel that has been available in the D-Max Ute for a while now. This new engine makes available 110kW of power and 350Nm of torque.

Both engines are mated to an Aisin 6Sp Automatic transmission as well as a choice of two drivetrains. Either rear wheel drive or 4WD with a dual range transmission.

The new engine is available on selected models in the range, designed for buyers that want even better value and don’t need all the power and torque of the 3.0L.

Over the years the Isuzu MU-X has been a popular choice of ours and in fact has won our sister site OzRoamer  4WD COTY award numerous times.
