The CX-60 comes in a choice of three engines. A plug in Hybrid and inline 6 cylinder petrol and my favourite an inline six cylinder turbo diesel.

This provides some 187 kW of power and 550 Nm of torque driving all four wheels on demand through an eight speed sports automatic transmission.

I like the driving characteristics of this engine and its balance between performance and economy is excellent. I wish Mazda would put this engine in the BT-50 as an option.

The CX-60 has clean, conservative styling. With a high roofed rear end, it also allows practical internal boot space  and a high opening hands free tailgate.

Inside the Azami has all the luxuries you would expect as well as a premium ambience.

Front seats are especially comfortable  with heating and ventilation, electronic adjustment  and additional lumbar support for my aging back.

Overall, the revamped CX-60 is a genuine contender for buyers in the mid-sized premium SUV segment.

Pricing for the CX-60 Azami starts from $68,440 plus the usual costs. Given the premium competition that’s well priced.

There are five models in the line up with two new ones joining the list.

They start with the entry level Pure model, then the Evolve, Touring, GT, and Azami. On top of these there are two option  packs that can be added. The Takumi which has a white interior or the SP which has a tan interior.

There is a choice of three engines.

• G40e 3.3L Turbocharged Petrol
• D50e 3.3L Turbocharged Diesel
• P50e 2.5L PHEV

Both the petrol and diesel are 48V mild hybrids while the PHEV engine has about 70 km EV Only range.

Mazda has also revised the Skyactiv-Drive eight-speed automatic transmission for 2025. They have also updated the suspension for a more balanced ride and handling, with examples including softer rear spring and firmer shock absorber settings that align with recalibrated stability systems to improve overall handling and comfort balance.

On top of that there are a host of technological and safety upgrades across the range.

The revised CX-60 is now available form dealers across Australia, and it complements the full CX model range with the CX-70, CX-80 and CX-90

Pricing for the Mazda CX-60 start at $50,240 through to $81,490 plus the usual costs.

I drove the entry level Evolve PHEV  a few weeks ago. It comes with a 4-cylinder 2.5 litre turbo petrol PHEV. This provides a combined 241 kW of power and w500 Nm of torque.

The cx-60 is all-wheel drive and comes with an eight-speed automatic transmission. It has a towing capacity of 2500kg.

The CX-60 comes well equipped for a base model. But it does cost some $73,600 plus the usual costs, so you would expect that.

Its especially comfortable inside and the PHEV engine is smooth enough. Recent suspension updates have improved the ride a touch.

Economy is OK and you can expect about 60 km in real life from the EV only driving.

The CX-60 PHEV is stylish and smooth It’s a mid-sized SUV and being a PHEV offers the best of both worlds. Daily EV driving along with the convenience of a petrol engine for longer trips.

Its expensive though and there is some reluctance by buyers to embrace the PHEV concept as well as more upmarket Mazda. Despite all that it’s a good car and wroth s drive.

The CX-60 comes in three different models with a choice of two inline six mild hybrid engines and a plug-in hybrid version.

There are also four option packs, so you can really customise what vehicle you want.

It’s a bold move by Mazda that met with reasonable success for the CX-60.

With a premium interior ambience, it feels quite luxurious.

A standout feature is the 25 inch central screen. This contrasts with a more traditional driver instrument panel

Other luxury touches include:

• heated and ventilated front leather seats,
• wireless smart phone connectivity and charging,
• auto LED headlights with auto high beam function,
• dual zone air conditioning with rear vents and
• heated external mirrors.

The CX-60 drove smoothly. I had the diesel version that allowed for reasonable performance and economy. It’s a mild hybrid only which is interesting as it’s not as economical as you might expect.

Overall the CX-60 is stylish and comfortable, its quiet, smooth yet engaging to drive and has a premium feel about it.
