Being the electric version, its quiet and smooth to drive. It certainly has enough performance if that’s what you want. But its more about the refined ride and handling.

There isn’t much that can upset the GV70 and that makes for a relaxed driving experience.

The 77.4 kilowatt hour battery is enough for about 400km range and is relatively quick to charge at a rapid charger. It takes a lot longer at home but its more convenient.

Inside its all luxury. The front seats cocoon you when you sit. Sitting in the GV70 is like putting a favourite pair of jeans, it just feels comfortable.

Of course, Genesis has put everything in the car they can to make it like that.

Rear seats are designed for two people and there is ample boot space for your luggage.

To be honest I prefer the GV70 3.5 litre twin turbocharged V6 engine, but the EV model is perfect for buyers that suits their needs.

Its priced from a little over $126,000 plus the usual costs, but Genesis have made quiet a statement with their cars.

The GV70 is a beautifully designed SUV with prestige ambiance. As you would expect the GV70 EV is packed with comfort and safety features. Its relaxing to drive and cocoons the occupants in luxury. The matte copper exterior finish contrasts with the stunning white interior.

The electric version comes with a 77.4kWh power battery and a theoretical maximum range of 445km (WLTP). We found that was closer to 390km at 100% charge.

It can take as little as 18 minutes to charge from 10 to 80 % when plugged into a 350kW rapid charger. However, like many EVs it took upwards of 20 hours to go from 45%-100% on a home 10-amp wall socket.

Electrified GV70 features a twin motor AWD system that delivers a peak output of 360kW (with Boost Mode) and an instantaneous 700Nm of torque. This will allow a 4.2-second 0-100km/h time.

Daily driving is quiet with refined ride and handling and enough driver engagement when pushed to keep boy racers happy.

Priced from $127,800 plus the usual costs, its expensive and a premium of some $35,000 over the exciting 3.5L twin turbo GV70 version.

• Beautiful in design, especially with the Matte Atacama Copper paint
• Contrasted to the white interior, it’s quite striking.
• Premium fit and finish as expected.
• Interior ambience is prestige all the way.
• Front sets, especially the drivers s eat, amongst the best in class.
• Particularly comfortable and restful for longer trips.
• EV performance is exhilarating. The GV70 is tight on the road, responsive to driver inputs and just the right size.

Daily things

• Central screen is large and easy to read.
• HUD is easy to use and read, but does polarise out with sunglasses.
• However, the functionality with control by dial is limited. Its also a reach to use as a touch screen.
• Having a slot for the phone wireless charging is clever. But not having wireless smart phone mirroring isn’t.
• Central storage bin is well laid out, but opening point is still oriented for LHD occupants.
• Front seats are awesome. They are so comfortable and relaxing.
• Arm rest points for driver are spot on for me.
• Windscreen washers provide particularly good coverage.
• Headlights and auto high beam are outstanding.
• Cant turn off the adaptive radar function for the cruise control which is a pain.
• It takes forever to charge from home. As do most EVs.
• If I bought one, I would definitely take the home charger option in the purchase price.
• The 100% range of less than 400km is below par these days.

Genesis builds excellent cars. They are luxurious and have a premium ambience about them.

The GV70 is a favourite SUV of mine. Especially in the sporty 3.5T version.

Having a fully electrified version allows a choice for buyers that feel an EV suits them best.

Apart from a short range of less than 400km the GV70 EV is an ideal premium EV SEV.
