Subaru builds good cars and the Crosstrek, released earlier this year is excellent.

The latest model is well styled with good street appeal.

Inside its comfortable for taller drivers. Front seats are heated with enough leg room for my taller frame. One standout feature is the tall central screen that mirrors a smart phone. Its informative and functional.

Powered by a 2.0L boxer engine that has reasonable power and torque and a CVT. Its adequate, but the platform could easily cope with much more. I would love to see the 2.5L engine that other markets get.

Where the Crosstrek has an advantage over every other SUV in its segment is the symmetrical AWD with X Mode functionality.

This allows for class leading on road dynamics. As well as the ability to drive straight from the road to forest trails, beach tracks or to the snow without fuss.

Crosstrek is stylish, comfortable, and safe. It’s the thinking persons SUV for adventurous buyers.

I drove the top spec model the 2.0S which is priced from around $41,500 plus the usual costs and considering the practicality and versatility, that’s awesome value

It’s a smaller AWD SUV, that is aimed directly at buyers that want a true adventurous lifestyle.

It comes with a choice of a 2.0 litre petrol engine or a mild hybrid version.

The key to the Crosstrek is its Symmetrical AWD system, which has permanent AWD as well as X-Mode functionality for difficult terrain.

Combine that with 220mm of ground clearance and its easy to see why they are so popular with the more adventurous buyers.

The Crosstrek is ideal for weekend camping trips, towing a small trailer, ski trips or just the daily urban grind.

With a Crosstrek you can venture much further off road, to find that secluded camping spot, than you can in almost any other similar SUV.

It will happily go where some much larger 4WDs will go and maybe put a few to shame at times.

Its smooth and easy to drive and both engines are reasonably economical. The Crosstrek comes with a CVT rather than an automatic transmission.

Inside its comfortable and spacious for its size. It also comes with premium features like wireless Apple CarPlay and a large 11.6 inch vertical central touchscreen.

Other features include auto wipers and headlights and class leading safety features.

The new model comes in a choice of three petrol engine and two mild hybrid models.

Both variants have the 2.0L boxer engine, with either a seven step CVT for the hybrid version or 8 step Lineartronic CVT for the normal version. Both have similar power and torque outputs.

All models come with the brilliant symmetrical AWD system that Subaru is famous for and the X-Mode functionality. Combine that with 220mm of ground clearance and its easy to see why they are so popular with the more adventurous buyers.

Crosstrek also has class leading safety features with the clever EyeSight® Driver Assist system standard in all models.

Other premium features include wireless smart phone charging and wireless connectivity for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. There is a huge 11.6-inch vertical multi zone central touch screen, first seen in the Outback. Little luxuries like driver monitoring, dusk sensing LED headlights, and Subaru Si dive are all standard.

Pricing is from a touch under $35,000 through to around $45,000 for the top hybrid model.
