Kluger GXL AWD Hybrid – There are a lot of new larger SUVs around now, but the reliable Toyota Kluger still sits competitively in the mix. I drove the GXL AWD Hybrid last week.
This mid spec model comes with a 2.5L 4-cylinder petrol engine with Toyota Hybrid Electric System and Auto CVT. It was surprisingly responsive but not a sport SUV.
Its smooth, quiet, and economical. Our fuel use was 6.5L/100K over the week. That’s outstanding for a vehicle this size.
The Kluger has a spacious interior with plenty of room for both front and mid row seats. The third row is a little tight for knee and leg room. However, with flat folding seats the luggage area can be cavernous.
The front seats are especially comfortable. The central screen is a 12.3-inch touchscreen. There is wired Android Auto and wireless Apple CarPlay connectivity but no wireless charging tray. The GXL comes with the full Toyota Safety Sense system.
The Toyota Kluger has been around for a long while and remains a reliable, safe, and practical family SUV. That’s why they are so popular. Priced from around $70,400 plus the usual costs the Kluger GXL is possibly the pick of the range.
