Car Sales – The results for new car sales have been released for July 2025. The report shows that the deliveries for the month are 103,097 vehicles.
SUVs remain the most popular vehicle delivered with about 60% of the total. Next are the LCV’s which includes Utes and Vans with about 23%, passenger cars continue to slide in popularity.
Petrol remains the dominant fuel with 40%, diesel comes next with 30%. Hybrid and PHEV are growing in popularity with a combined 20% and EV continue to drop with about 5% of deliveries.
The top selling vehicle in July was the Toyota HiLux. Of the top ten vehicles three were Utes, six were SUV’s and one, the Toyota Corolla, is a passenger car.
Toyota remains the market leader with almost a 20% share. They are followed by Mazda, Ford, Kia Hyundai. The next five are Mitsubishi, GWM, BYD, Isuzu Ute and MG. This reflect the changing nature of the market with three Chinese brands in there.
The results show that despite the Government trying to push the EV agenda, buyers will buy what suits them. And clearly Hybrids are a popular solution. Given the vast distances many vehicles travel in Australia, EVs clearly are an unacceptable choice. They are good for inner city dwellers, but basically anywhere outside the cities they are unworkable.
With the NVES penalties staring in July, the remaining months will prove interesting.
