Isuzu MU-X LS-U – I recently took a few days away to the farm in the Isuzu LS-U 1.9L 4WD. This is a base version of the popular 4WD wagon but with the smaller motor.
The trip was through the central west, out through Bathurst, Orange, Canowindra, Cowra, Gooloogong and Eugowra. All regional country towns that are the hear and soul of NSW.
Being the base model it would be expected to be missing a few features. But it does come with the full suite of safety features as well as a handy electronic adjustment for a lumbar support for the driver.
Isuzu believes that a smaller motor will be popular with buyers that don’t necessarily want to tow anything big. And that’s the key because while the 1.9L is economical and will cruise easily on the open road. It does struggle on some hills and anything over about 1800kg will test the patience of drivers and the limits of the engine.
I found that on cruise control around 100-110km/h it would hunt between gears, trying to find the right one to sit at the seed. This is purely as a result of the less torque.
Otherwise the MU-X was as comfortable, spacious and easy to drive as the bigger brother. It made a pleasant outback tourer.
I can understand why buyers may want this option. However ill choose the bigger 3.0L motor please.
The Isuzu MU-X LS-U is priced from $59,900 plus the usual costs and that’s great value
