SsangYong Rexton – Last week I drove the updated SsangYong Rexton Ultimate 4WD. This is the top model in the range and is priced from the surprisingly low $58,000 drive away.
The Rexton is a seven seat 4WD wagon like the Isuzu MU-X or the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport.
It has a big bold style about it with an imposing bonnet and front grill. Inside its luxury and comfort all the way.
Rexton comes with a 2.2L turbo diesel engine and 8-speed automatic transmission with electronic shift lever and steering wheel paddle shifts. This combination provides adequate performance and surprisingly good economy. There is a part time dual range 4WD system and rear diff lock. The Rexton is also rated to tow 3500kg.
It wouldn’t be my first pick to head to Cape York, but forest trails, beach driving or ski trips are all well covered.
The Rexton Ultimate comes with
- Powered sunroof and tailgate
- Premium quilted leather seats with heating and ventilation
- 360° camera
- 3rd row A/C controls
- Rear auto up/down power windows
- Ambient interior lighting
- Illuminated front door scuff plates
- Privacy glass
The Rexton also crosses over into SUV class with its multi link suspension system providing a smooth SUV like ride. Think Hyundai Palisade or Kia Sorento, but with true 4WD capability.
